Barriers like limited time and serving uninsured populations persist in primary care.
Prioritization of services is crucial for effective resource allocation.

Purpose of the Study:

To update estimates of the relative health impact and cost-effectiveness of evidence-based preventive services.
To identify high-priority preventive services for quality improvement initiatives.

Main Methods:

Assessed 28 evidence-based clinical preventive services.
Evaluated services based on cost-effectiveness and clinically preventable burden (quality-adjusted life years saved).
Utilized new microsimulation models for updated estimates and compared rankings with national delivery rates.

Main Results:

Identified top-ranking services including childhood immunizations, youth tobacco initiation counseling, and adult tobacco cessation interventions.
Greatest population health gains are achievable by increasing utilization of services addressing tobacco use, obesity, alcohol misuse, colorectal cancer screening, and influenza vaccination.

Conclusions:

This study provides a prioritized list of preventive services.
Findings can guide decision-makers in selecting services for quality-improvement efforts.
