Area of Science:

  • Behavioral neurobiology
  • Zebrafish model systems

Background:

  • Zebrafish are increasingly used in behavioral neurobiology.
  • Existing locomotor assays often require specialized equipment and proprietary software.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To assess the utility of the wrMTrck plugin for measuring zebrafish locomotion.
  • To provide a freely accessible tool for zebrafish behavioral analysis.

Main Methods:

  • Utilized the wrMTrck plugin, initially developed for *Caenorhabditis elegans*.
  • Applied wrMTrck to quantify locomotor behavior in zebrafish.

Main Results:

  • wrMTrck successfully measured zebrafish locomotion.
  • Demonstrated the adaptability of wrMTrck for a new model organism.

Conclusions:

  • The wrMTrck plugin is a viable, open-source tool for zebrafish locomotion analysis.
  • This offers a cost-effective solution for behavioral neurobiology research.
