The correlation between central and peripheral oxytocin concentrations: A systematic review and meta-analysis

Peripheral oxytocin levels do not reliably reflect central oxytocin concentrations under basal conditions. However, they correlate significantly after intranasal oxytocin administration or stress, suggesting coordinated release.
