Background:

Plasma cell leukemia (PCL) is a rare and aggressive monoclonal gammopathy.
Diagnosis requires >20% plasma cells in peripheral blood or >2000/mm³ absolute count.
Limited data exists due to low incidence, primarily from case reports and retrospective studies.

Purpose of the Study:

To investigate the clinical features and outcomes of patients diagnosed with PCL.
To contribute to the understanding of this aggressive hematologic malignancy.

Main Methods:

A retrospective analysis of 18 PCL cases diagnosed between 2006 and 2015.
Inclusion of complete clinical, treatment, and outcome data from patient records.

Main Results:

18 PCL cases identified (3.7% of multiple myeloma cases).
16 cases were primary PCL; 2 were secondary.
Median age was 56.5 years, with a median overall survival of 3 months despite immunomodulatory agents.

Conclusions:

PCL is a highly aggressive disease with a poor prognosis.
Current treatment involves immunomodulators and proteasome inhibitors.
Further research is needed to evaluate autologous stem cell transplant efficacy in PCL.
