Background:

Eugenol is a key compound in essential oils with various applications.
Assessing the purity of commercially available eugenol is crucial for its effective use.
Impurities can affect the chemical properties and reactivity of eugenol.

Purpose of the Study:

To evaluate and compare the purity of different eugenol brands.
To remove impurities from eugenol using preparative liquid chromatography.
To investigate potential differences in chemical reactivity between purified and unpurified eugenol.

Main Methods:

High-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) with UV detection was employed for purity analysis.
Preparative liquid chromatography was utilized to isolate and remove impurities.
Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR) spectroscopy was used to characterize the purified eugenol and compare it with the stock.

The purity of several eugenol brands was successfully assessed.
