Summary

Immune checkpoint inhibitors can cause autoimmune encephalitis in cancer patients. Prompt steroid treatment, like methylprednisolone, can effectively resolve neurological symptoms.

Background:

Immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs) revolutionized cancer therapy.
Autoimmune encephalitis is a rare but serious adverse event associated with ICIs.

Observation:

A patient with non-small cell lung cancer developed autoimmune encephalitis during nivolumab monotherapy.
Initial antiepileptic treatment was ineffective.

Findings:

Neurologic symptoms resolved within 24 hours after methylprednisolone administration.
ICI-induced autoimmune encephalitis is a potential complication of cancer immunotherapy.

Implications:

Early recognition and prompt immunosuppressive treatment are crucial for managing ICI-induced autoimmune encephalitis.
Further research is needed to understand the incidence and mechanisms of ICI-related neurotoxicity.
