Urologic Endoscopic Procedure: Cystoscopic Examination

4.1K
Meaning of Cystoscopic Examination:Cystoscopy is an essential diagnostic tool in urology that is used to assess the structure and function of the genitourinary system. It provides a direct view of the urethra, bladder, and, in some cases, the ureteral openings. This procedure helps detect structural abnormalities, infections, cancers, and blockages in the urinary tract. There are two types of cystoscopy:Flexible cystoscopy is commonly performed in outpatient settings due to its less invasive...

Endoscopic Procedures IV: Sigmoidoscopy and Laproscopy

864
Sigmoidoscopy and laparoscopy are distinct medical procedures that enable physicians to internally inspect different parts of the GI tract. Although they serve different purposes, each is essential for diagnosing and, in some cases, treating various medical conditions.
Sigmoidoscopy
Sigmoidoscopy is a diagnostic procedure that uses a flexible sigmoidoscope equipped with a light source and camera to examine the rectum and sigmoid colon. The procedure involves inserting the tube through the anus...

Area of Science:

  • Medical Education
  • Surgical Simulation
  • Gynecology

Background:

  • Hysteroscopy is a common procedure but difficult to master.
  • Traditional hands-on training faces ethical, legal, and financial barriers.
  • Virtual reality simulation offers a potential solution for hysteroscopy training.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To develop a validated hysteroscopy curriculum.
  • To identify essential technical and non-technical skills for hysteroscopy.
  • To establish a standardized training program for hysteroscopy.

Main Methods:

  • Literature review on hysteroscopy curriculum and simulation.
  • Delphi method involving 20 hysteroscopy experts.
  • Iterative rounds to achieve expert consensus on skill requirements.

Main Results:

  • Three Delphi rounds achieved 80-100% agreement on 31 (61%) items.
  • A simulation-based hysteroscopy curriculum was developed from consensus items.
  • Resident feedback indicated the training was acceptable and improved skills.

Conclusions:

  • A simulation-based hysteroscopy curriculum was successfully developed using the Delphi method.
  • This curriculum standardizes hysteroscopy training for residents.
  • The developed curriculum addresses the need for validated training tools in hysteroscopy.
