Nursing Process for Patient and Caregiver Teaching I: Assessment and Diagnosis01:24

Nursing Process for Patient and Caregiver Teaching I: Assessment and Diagnosis

2.6K
The nursing process provides a clinical decision-making framework for patients and families to establish and implement a personalized care plan. Since part of the nurse's duties is to teach patients, the steps of the nursing process are the most effective way to approach instruction. The nursing process and the teaching-learning process are inextricably linked.
It is critical to determine the patient's learning needs during the assessment. Determination of learning needs compounds data...

Nursing Process for Patient and Caregiver Teaching II: Planning and Implementation

2.2K
Planning for learning involves the development of a teaching plan. Teaching plans are similar to nursing care plans—both follow the steps of the nursing process. Planning in the teaching process involves setting goals and outcomes. Here, goals identify what a patient needs to achieve to understand a healthcare topic better, whereas the outcomes are the action to be performed by the patient to achieve the goal within a timeframe. For example, if the goal is to educate the patient about...

Nursing Process for Patient and Caregiver Teaching III: Evaluation and Documentation

2.7K
Evaluation of the teaching process enables the nurse to determine if the patient's learning needs were met and if training was effective. If the expected outcomes are not met, the care plan is revised, and additional education or reinforcement is provided. Nurses can ask questions after the session or obtain feedback to assess the patient's understanding of the topic.
Nurses can use several methods to evaluate patient outcomes. For example, oral questions can assess cognitive learning,...

National Nursing Organizations II01:30

National Nursing Organizations II

2.1K
Nursing organizations play a vital role in representing nurses working in specialized clinical settings, such as the American Association of Critical-Care Nurses (AACN).
The AACN emphasizes a healthy work environment through six standards to achieve an optimal patient outcome. The standards are appropriate staffing, meaningful recognition, collaboration, authentic leadership, effective communication, and decision-making. In addition, AACN provides certification programs, webinars, journals, and...

Nursing Implementation01:15

Nursing Implementation

6.4K
Implementation is the execution of the nursing care plan developed during the planning phase.
The five steps to implementing effective nursing care include reassessing the patient, reviewing and revising the existing nursing care plan, organizing the resources and care delivery, anticipating and preventing complications, and implementing nursing interventions.

Health Literacy01:21

Health Literacy

5.5K
Health literacy is an individual's or a community's capacity to comprehend, receive, read, and use relevant healthcare information and services. The World Health Organization (WHO, 2018) defines health literacy as the cognitive and social skills that determine the ability of individuals to gain access to, understand, and use information in ways that promote and maintain good health. As a result, the WHO helps individuals manage long-term health concerns, participate in preventative...

    Area of Science:

    • Nursing Education
    • Pedagogical Strategies
    • Community Health Nursing

    Background:

    • Undergraduate nursing students often struggle with population health concepts due to an acute care focus.
    • Team-based learning (TBL) is explored as a pedagogical approach to address these challenges.

    Purpose of the Study:

    • To investigate the influence of team-based learning (TBL) on academic outcomes in an undergraduate community health nursing course.
    • To describe the relationship between readiness assurance test scores and final examination performance within a TBL framework.

    Main Methods:

    • A descriptive correlational research design was employed.
    • Data were collected from 221 undergraduate nursing students.
    • Student scores on individual readiness assurance tests (iRATs), team readiness assurance tests (tRATs), and the final examination were analyzed.

    Main Results:

    • A significant positive correlation was observed between individual readiness assurance test (iRAT) scores and final examination scores.
    • The mean team readiness assurance test (tRAT) score was higher than the mean iRAT score for all students.
    • A moderate positive correlation was found between team readiness assurance test (tRAT) scores and final examination scores.

    Conclusions:

    • Team-based learning (TBL) is an effective pedagogical strategy for nursing education, particularly in courses with complex concepts like community health.
    • TBL positively influences student academic outcomes, as evidenced by the correlation between readiness assurance tests and final examination performance.
    • The findings support the integration of TBL to enhance student learning and application of challenging public health principles.
