This study details a rare case of single coronary artery treated with percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI). Rescue PCI via the right radial artery successfully managed atherosclerotic lesions in this anomalous vessel.
Area of Science:
- Cardiology
- Interventional Cardiology
- Congenital Heart Disease
Background:
- Single coronary artery is a rare congenital anomaly.
- Atherosclerotic stenosis in anomalous coronary arteries presents unique challenges for treatment.
- Percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) in single coronary artery anomalies is infrequently reported.
Observation:
- A patient presented with a rare single coronary artery originating from the right sinus.
- The patient required rescue percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) for atherosclerotic lesions.
- The PCI procedure was performed using a right radial artery approach.
Findings:
- Successful rescue PCI was achieved using the right radial approach.
- The case highlights the feasibility of PCI in managing atherosclerotic disease in a single coronary artery.
- Technical difficulties related to ostial configuration and catheter manipulation were managed.
Implications:
- This case expands the understanding of interventional treatment options for single coronary artery anomalies.
- It demonstrates the safety and efficacy of the right radial approach in complex PCI scenarios.
- Further research may explore optimal PCI strategies for these rare anatomical variations.
