Evaluation of CD43 expression in non-hematopoietic malignancies

CD43 is a marker for blood cancers, but this study found it is usually negative in non-hematopoietic tumors. When positive, CD43 shows weak nuclear staining, unlike the strong membranous staining seen in blood cancers.

Conclusions:
- Most non-hematopoietic neoplasms are negative for CD43.
- Focal, weak nuclear CD43 positivity can occur in a subset of non-hematopoietic tumors.
- Uniform, strong membranous CD43 expression remains specific for hematopoietic neoplasms.
