Information management in Iran's Maternal Mortality Surveillance System (IMMSS) is generally good but needs improvements. Enhancing data collection and communication links can further reduce maternal mortality.
Area of Science:
- Public Health
- Health Informatics
- Maternal Health Surveillance
Background:
- Maternal mortality is a critical public health issue.
- Effective information management is key to reducing maternal deaths.
- The Maternal Mortality Surveillance System (MMSS) targets this challenge.
Purpose of the Study:
- To assess the current state of information management within the Iranian Maternal Mortality Surveillance System (IMMSS).
- To identify areas for improvement in IMMSS information handling.
Main Methods:
- A descriptive and analytical study conducted in 2016.
- Data collected from 76 administrative staff via a validated questionnaire.
- Analysis using SPSS with descriptive and inferential statistics, including Kendall's correlation coefficient.
Main Results:
- The overall status of information management in IMMSS was found to be desirable.
- Data gathering/storage scored highest, while data processing/compilation scored lowest.
- Specific areas needing improvement included data-gathering methods and resource allocation based on system data.
Conclusions:
- While IMMSS information management is desirable, enhancements are recommended.
- Suggested improvements include modifying data collection, improving communication, and integrating ICD-MM standards.
