Purpose of the Study:

  • To establish normal carotid intima media thickness (CIMT) percentile values for a Pakistani cohort.
  • To provide reference ranges for common carotid artery (CCA) and internal carotid artery (ICA) measurements.
  • To facilitate improved cardiovascular risk stratification in the Pakistani population.

Main Methods:

  • A cross-sectional study involving 257 patients without known carotid artery disease.
  • High-frequency ultrasound imaging of the carotid arteries was performed.
  • Reference ranges (5th-95th percentiles) were constructed for CCA and ICA measurements.
