Multicentric high grade oligodendroglioma: a rare entity.

Summary

This study reports a rare case of multicentric high-grade oligodendroglioma in a 74-year-old male. The brain tumor, diagnosed via biopsy, presented as multiple ring-enhancing lesions on MRI.

Background:

High-grade oligodendroglioma is a primary brain tumor typically presenting as a single lesion.
Multicentric occurrence of oligodendroglioma is exceptionally rare in clinical practice.

Observation:

A 74-year-old male presented with right upper limb weakness and motor aphasia.
Brain MRI revealed three discrete ring-enhancing lesions, suggestive of multiple neoplastic processes.
An awake craniotomy and biopsy were performed for histopathological diagnosis.

Findings:

Histopathological examination confirmed the lesions as grade III Oligodendroglioma.
This represents a rare instance of multicentric high-grade oligodendroglioma, a presentation not previously documented in medical literature.

Implications:

This case expands the understanding of oligodendroglioma's potential clinical presentations.
Highlights the importance of comprehensive diagnostic evaluation for multiple brain lesions.
Suggests further research into the etiology and management of multicentric gliomas.
