Area of Science:

  • Neuro-oncology
  • Neurosurgery
  • Neuropathology

Background:

  • High-grade oligodendroglioma is a primary brain tumor typically presenting as a single lesion.
  • Multicentric occurrence of oligodendroglioma is exceptionally rare in clinical practice.

Observation:

  • A 74-year-old male presented with right upper limb weakness and motor aphasia.
  • Brain MRI revealed three discrete ring-enhancing lesions, suggestive of multiple neoplastic processes.
  • An awake craniotomy and biopsy were performed for histopathological diagnosis.

Findings:

  • Histopathological examination confirmed the lesions as grade III Oligodendroglioma.
  • This represents a rare instance of multicentric high-grade oligodendroglioma, a presentation not previously documented in medical literature.

Implications:

  • This case expands the understanding of oligodendroglioma's potential clinical presentations.
  • Highlights the importance of comprehensive diagnostic evaluation for multiple brain lesions.
  • Suggests further research into the etiology and management of multicentric gliomas.
