Background:

  • Gallium-67 (Ga-67) scintigraphy is not a routine diagnostic tool for thyroid disorders.

Observation:

  • A patient with progressive systemic sclerosis (PSS) incidentally showed abnormal Ga-67 uptake solely in the thyroid gland during a scan for pulmonary assessment.
  • Thyroid fine needle aspiration cytology confirmed Hashimoto's thyroiditis.

Findings:

  • This case represents the first reported instance of thyroidal Ga-67 uptake associated with PSS.
  • Hashimoto's thyroiditis is more prevalent in PSS patients, but Ga-67 uptake in this context was previously undescribed.
