  • Campylobacter species were isolated from the feces of all three patients.
  • No Campylobacter was detected in a control group of 20 pediatric patients with other conditions.

Findings:

  • All three patients showed significant improvement after a course of erythromycin.
  • The findings suggest a potential link between Campylobacter infection and reactive hip arthropathy.
  • Campylobacter was not identified in a control group, strengthening the association.

Implications:

  • Campylobacter infection should be considered in the differential diagnosis of irritable hip syndrome.
  • Fecal cultures for Campylobacter may aid in diagnosing reactive arthropathy of the hip.
  • Early identification and antibiotic treatment (e.g., erythromycin) could improve patient outcomes.
