    Summary

    A Stafne cyst, a common benign jaw lesion, was identified in an 80-year-old man. Imaging confirmed its characteristic location and content, aiding diagnosis.

    Background:

    • Stafne cysts, also known as static bone defects, are typically asymptomatic developmental abnormalities.
    • They are often discovered incidentally during routine dental radiographic examinations.

    Observation:

    • A radiolucent lesion was observed in the right mandible of an 80-year-old male patient on panoramic radiography.
    • Cone beam computed tomography (CBCT) revealed the lesion's location inferior to the mandibular canal.

    Findings:

    • CBCT imaging demonstrated the presence of fatty tissue or submandibular salivary gland within the concavity of the lesion.
    • These imaging characteristics are highly suggestive of a Stafne cyst.
