Sports Medicine and Managed Care
Abstract:
In brief Because the primary care physician is the cornerstone of the managed care system, opportunities for primary care physicians to practice sports medicine under managed care will likely increase. Access to a vast array of resources and an emphasis on patient education and preventive services has contributed to the success of sports medicine at the Kaiser Permanente Medical Care Program in California. As sports medicine enters the managed care arena, issues of efficient service delivery, cost effectiveness, and interdisciplinary care will require closer scrutiny.
