Is there a relationship between spondyloarthritis and periodontitis? A case-control study

Patients with spondyloarthritis (SpA) showed a lower frequency and severity of periodontitis compared to healthy individuals. This study found no positive association between SpA and periodontitis in Colombian patients.

- No significant differences in periodontal variables, antibodies, or bacteria between groups; no positive association found (OR: 0.57).
Conclusions:
- SpA patients exhibited a lower, not higher, frequency and severity of periodontitis.
- Findings suggest no positive association between SpA and periodontitis in this Colombian cohort.
- Further research may explore potential protective factors in SpA patients.
