Collar Bearings01:23

Collar Bearings

1.7K
Collar bearings are essential in various machines designed to support axial loads on rotating shafts. Depending on the specific application and requirements, they can be found with single or multiple collars.

Peripheral Arterial Disease II: Clinical Manifestations and Diagnostic Evaluation

462
Clinical manifestationsPeripheral Arterial Disease (PAD) manifests through a range of symptoms, from the characteristic intermittent claudication to atypical presentations and severe complications in advanced stages. Intermittent claudication, a hallmark symptom of PAD, presents as exercise-induced muscle pain that typically resolves within minutes of rest. This pain is reproducible and stems from inadequate blood flow, leading to the accumulation of lactic acid produced during anaerobic...

Comparing Copy Number Variations and SNPs02:26

Comparing Copy Number Variations and SNPs

18.8K
Sequencing of the human genome has opened up several best-kept secrets of the genome. Scientists have identified thousands of genome variations that exist within a population. These variations can be a single nucleotide or a larger chromosomal variation.
Copy number variations or CNVs are the structural variations that cover more than 1kb of DNA sequence. The single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP), on the other hand, is a single nucleotide change or a point mutation that is found in more than 1%...

Comparative Excretory Systems

26.7K
Animals have evolved different strategies for excretion, the removal of waste from the body. Most waste must be dissolved in water to be excreted, so an animal’s excretory strategy directly affects its water balance.

Comparing Experimental Results: Student's t-Test

6.1K
The t-test is a statistical method used to compare the sample mean with a population mean or compare two means from two data sets. The test statistic is calculated from the standard deviation, mean, and number of measurements in the data set at a selected confidence interval and then compared to a table of critical values at this confidence level. If the test statistic is smaller than the critical value, the null hypothesis is accepted. In this case, we state that the difference between the...

Summary

Dental implants with laser-microtextured collars show significantly less marginal bone loss and probing depth after 10 years compared to machined surfaces. This long-term study highlights the benefits of surface modifications for implant success.

Area of Science:

  • Dental Implantology
  • Biomaterials Science
  • Periodontology

Background:

  • Long-term comparative data on peri-implant parameters are crucial for evaluating implant designs.
  • Previous 3-year follow-up data suggested benefits for laser-microtextured collars.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To compare marginal bone loss (MBL) and soft tissue parameters around dental implants with laser-microtextured (L) versus machined (M) collar surfaces after at least 10 years.
  • To assess the long-term efficacy of L collar surface in maintaining peri-implant health.

Main Methods:

  • A prospective longitudinal study followed 32 implants (16 L, 16 M) in 15 patients for at least 10 years.
  • Plaque score, bleeding on probing (BoP), probing depth (PD), mucosal recession (MR), and MBL were recorded.
  • Implants with L collar surface were compared to those with M collar surface.

Main Results:

  • No significant differences in plaque or BoP between L and M groups.
  • Statistically significant lower mean PD (2.3 vs 3.8 mm), MBL (1.23 vs 2.8 mm), and MR (1.08 vs 2.46 mm) for L implants compared to M implants.
  • 32 implants (16 test, 16 control) completed the 10-year follow-up.

Conclusions:

  • Laser-microtextured collar surfaces on dental implants lead to reduced marginal bone loss and probing depth after at least 10 years.
  • L collar surface demonstrates superior long-term performance in maintaining peri-implant bone levels and soft tissue health compared to machined surfaces.
