Review of the correlation between hospice philosophies and logos
1Nurse Teacher at St Luke's Hospice Sheffield.
Abstract:
A review was undertaken of the ability of some published hospice philosophies and logos from different countries, known to the author, to convey the spirit of hospice care. Weisman's (1988) essential criteria for a hospice programme - which acknowledge the patient, family and staff - were used when comparing the comprehensive nature of both philosophies and logos. The findings suggest that symbolic logos show a greater potential to succinctly convey the comprehensive spirit of hospice care than written philosophies.
