  • Indications included necrotizing fasciitis and non-healing stump infections post-amputation, two complicated by total knee arthroplasty (TKA).
  • Two patients died post-operatively due to respiratory complications; two survived and achieved independent ambulation with crutches.

Findings:

  • Factors influencing mortality include surgical urgency and underlying ischemic conditions.
  • Successful management requires aggressive debridement, targeted antibiotic therapy, and meticulous wound care.
  • Negative-pressure wound therapy and multidisciplinary collaboration are vital.

Implications:

  • This study highlights the critical need for a multidisciplinary approach in managing severe musculoskeletal infections requiring hip disarticulation.
  • Optimizing patient preparation, surgical technique, and post-operative care can potentially improve outcomes.
