This study developed an effective avermectin solid nanodispersion using microprecipitation and lyophilisation. The novel pesticide formulation shows enhanced efficacy and stability, reducing environmental impact.
Area of Science:
- Agricultural Chemistry
- Nanotechnology
- Pesticide Formulation
Background:
- Poorly water-soluble and photosensitive pesticides pose formulation challenges for effective, solvent-free delivery.
- Conventional pesticide formulations often struggle with efficacy, stability, and environmental concerns.
Purpose of the Study:
- To develop a stable, solvent-free solid nanodispersion of avermectin with enhanced efficacy.
- To evaluate the physicochemical properties, anti-photolysis performance, and biological activity of the novel nanodispersion.
Main Methods:
- Microprecipitation and lyophilisation techniques were employed to create the avermectin solid nanodispersion.
- Characterization included particle size analysis, suspensibility, wetting time, and anti-photolysis testing.
- Biological activity was assessed against diamondback moths using LC50 as the evaluation index.
Main Results:
- Avermetcin solid nanodispersion achieved a mean particle size of 188 nm with 99.8% suspensibility and 13 s wetting time.
- The nanoformulation exhibited twice the anti-photolysis performance of the technical material.
- Biological activity was over 1.5 times higher than conventional formulations against diamondback moths.
Conclusions:
- Microprecipitation combined with lyophilisation offers a promising method for creating solvent-free nanoformulations for challenging pesticides.
- The developed solid nanodispersion demonstrates superior performance, reduced surfactant content, and potential for decreased chemical residues and environmental pollution in agriculture.
