Nursing Implementation01:15

Nursing Implementation

6.3K
Implementation is the execution of the nursing care plan developed during the planning phase.
The five steps to implementing effective nursing care include reassessing the patient, reviewing and revising the existing nursing care plan, organizing the resources and care delivery, anticipating and preventing complications, and implementing nursing interventions.

Standard Enthalpy of Formation02:37

Standard Enthalpy of Formation

49.6K
Enthalpy changes are typically tabulated for reactions in which both the reactants and products are at the same conditions. A standard state is a commonly accepted set of conditions used as a reference point for the determination of properties under other different conditions. For chemists, the IUPAC standard state refers to materials under a pressure of 1 bar and solutions at 1 M and does not specify a temperature. Many thermochemical tables list values with a standard state of 1 atm. Because...

Standard Electrode Potentials03:02

Standard Electrode Potentials

50.6K
On comparing the reactivity of silver and lead, it is observed that the two ionic species, Ag+ (aq) and Pb2+ (aq), show a difference in their redox reactivity towards copper: the silver ion undergoes spontaneous reduction, while the lead ion does not. This relative redox activity can be easily quantified in electrochemical cells by a property called cell potential. This property is commonly known as cell voltage in electrochemistry, and it is a measure of the energy which accompanies the charge...

Measurement: Standard Units03:38

Measurement: Standard Units

82.4K
Every measurement provides three kinds of information: the size or magnitude of the measurement (a number), a standard of comparison for the measurement (a unit), and an indication of the uncertainty of the measurement. While the number and unit are explicitly represented when a quantity is written, the uncertainty is an aspect of the errors in the measurement results.

Gene-Environment Interactions01:20

Gene-Environment Interactions

1.2K
Gene expression is a dynamic process that is significantly influenced by environmental factors. This interaction underlies the complex nature of biological development and the phenotypic differences observed among individuals, even among those with identical genetic makeups. Factors such as radiation, temperature, behavior, nutrition, and stress play pivotal roles in determining how genes are expressed. The concept of the reaction range is central to understanding this interaction. It posits...

Calculating Standard Free Energy Changes02:49

Calculating Standard Free Energy Changes

25.8K
The free energy change for a reaction that occurs under the standard conditions of 1 bar pressure and at 298 K is called the standard free energy change. Since free energy is a state function, its value depends only on the conditions of the initial and final states of the system. A convenient and common approach to the calculation of free energy changes for physical and chemical reactions is by use of widely available compilations of standard state thermodynamic data. One method involves the...

Area of Science:

  • Nursing Education
  • Organizational Psychology
  • Workplace Health

Background:

  • The American Association of Critical Care Nurses (AACN) established six Healthy Work Environment (HWE) standards for clinical settings in 2005, later reaffirmed and expanded in 2016.
  • These HWE standards were adapted for academic settings in 2012.
  • Existing academic standards may not encompass all School of Nursing (SON) employees, including both staff and faculty.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To present a revised set of academic workplace standards applicable to all School of Nursing (SON) employees.
  • To propose a seventh standard, 'self-care,' as the fundamental basis for the other standards.
  • To describe the ongoing implementation of these seven revised HWE standards at the University of Virginia School of Nursing (UVA SON).

Main Methods:

  • Literature review of existing Healthy Work Environment (HWE) standards (AACN, 2005, 2016; Fontaine et al., 2012).
  • Revision of academic HWE standards to be inclusive of all SON employees (staff and faculty).
  • Conceptualization and integration of a seventh standard: self-care.
  • Description of implementation strategies at a specific academic institution (UVA SON).

Main Results:

  • A revised set of seven Healthy Work Environment (HWE) standards tailored for academic nursing settings has been developed.
  • The proposed seventh standard, self-care, is posited as foundational to the effective implementation of all HWE standards.
  • The University of Virginia School of Nursing (UVA SON) is actively implementing these seven standards across its workforce.

Conclusions:

  • The revised seven Healthy Work Environment (HWE) standards provide a comprehensive framework for academic nursing workplaces.
  • Integrating self-care as a core standard enhances the well-being and effectiveness of all SON employees.
  • Successful implementation at UVA SON demonstrates the practical applicability of these enhanced academic HWE standards.
