Confirmation Biases

The confirmation bias is the tendency to focus on information that confirms our existing beliefs and ignore information that is inconsistent with our expectations. For example, if you think that your professor is not very nice, you notice all of the instances of rude behavior exhibited by the professor while ignoring the countless pleasant interactions he is involved in on a daily basis. Summary

Topical timolol effectively treated an intraocular infantile hemangioma, specifically an iris hemangioma. This case highlights a novel therapeutic approach for this rare condition.

Background:

Infantile hemangiomas are common benign vascular tumors.
Extraocular infantile hemangiomas often respond to beta-blocker therapy.
Limited data exists on managing intraocular infantile hemangiomas with beta-blockers.

Observation:

A case of intraocular infantile hemangioma involving the iris is presented.
The patient was treated with topical timolol.
This represents a previously unreported application of topical timolol.

Findings:

Topical timolol demonstrated efficacy in managing the iris hemangioma.
The treatment was well-tolerated by the patient.
This case suggests topical timolol as a viable option for intraocular infantile hemangiomas.

Implications:

This finding expands the therapeutic options for intraocular infantile hemangiomas.
Further research may validate topical timolol for similar cases.
This approach could potentially prevent vision impairment in affected children.
