Subjective sleepiness is better understood by assessing fatigue and anxiety, not just sleepiness scales. This multidimensional model improves understanding of excessive daytime sleepiness (EDS).

- The isolated use of the Epworth Sleepiness Scale (ESS) may be insufficient for fully understanding subjective sleepiness.
