Purpose of the Study:

  • To investigate the relationship between resistant starch (RS) consumption, gut fermentation, and microbiota changes in obesity-prone (OP) and obesity-resistant (OR) rats.
  • To determine if enhanced fermentation induced by RS contributes to weight gain or fat accretion.

Main Methods:

  • Obesity-prone and obesity-resistant rats were fed a high-fat (HF) diet, then stratified into groups receiving either an HF diet, a low-fat (LF) diet, or an LF diet supplemented with 20% RS.
  • Measurements included energy intake, body weight, fermentation variables (cecal contents, short-chain fatty acids), and gut microbiota composition.
