    Background:

    • Discopathy often causes severe pain.
    • Effective pain management strategies are crucial for patients with discopathy.
    • Epidural blockade is a potential treatment modality.

    Purpose of the Study:

    • To evaluate the effectiveness of morphine epidural blockade for severe pain in discopathy patients.
    • To compare the analgesic duration of morphine, xylocaine, and saline epidural injections.

    Main Methods:

    • Sixty discopathy patients with severe pain were divided into three groups.
    • Group I received morphine with xylocaine epidurally.
    • Groups II and III received double-blinded sequential epidural injections of morphine/saline and xylocaine/saline.

    Main Results:

    • Morphine epidural blockade provided a mean analgesia duration of 20 hours.
    • The addition of xylocaine to morphine did not significantly alter the duration of analgesia.
