Tertiary Healthcare System01:21

Tertiary Healthcare System

2.2K
Specialized care provided over an extended period is called tertiary care. Usually, a primary or secondary care physician will refer a patient to tertiary care. A patient's maximum physical and mental function is restored in tertiary care, which is caused due to the impact of a chronic illness or condition. Tertiary care aims to achieve the highest level of functioning possible while managing chronic illness. For example, a patient who falls and fractures their hip will need secondary care...

Psychosis: Goals of Pharmacotherapy

546
Antipsychotic drugs are a crucial treatment method for acute and chronic psychoses, bipolar illness, and behavioral disorders. The selection of these drugs depends on several factors, including the state of the disease, clinical judgment, possible drug interactions, and the patient's sensitivity to adverse effects. In immediate scenarios, such as delirium and dementia, short-term treatment with low doses of high-potency typical or atypical agents can effectively manage symptom exacerbation.

Nomenclature of Secondary and Tertiary Amines01:12

Nomenclature of Secondary and Tertiary Amines

5.2K
The secondary and tertiary amines are derivatives of ammonia, where two and three of its hydrogens are replaced by alkyl groups, respectively. Secondary and tertiary amines can be symmetrical with identical alkyl groups attached to the nitrogen atom or unsymmetrical when more than one type of alkyl group is present. The standard nomenclature of secondary and tertiary amines is similar to the names given to the primary amines. They are generally named alkylamines. As depicted in Figure 1, for...

Nursing Interventions I: Taxonomy of Nursing Interventions

4.0K
Nursing interventions are chosen as part of the planning process to achieve patient outcomes. Once nursing diagnoses are determined, the goals and outcomes are specified, then the nursing interventions are selected and individualized according to the patient's situation.
A nursing intervention is a treatment or action based on scientific concepts and knowledge from the nursing, behavioral, and physical sciences. Identifying and prioritizing nursing interventions based on the desired outcome...

Nursing Interventions II: Selecting and Classifying the Nursing Interventions

3.4K
Creating and executing a nursing diagnosis helps nurses plan care and guide patient, family, and community interventions. They are developed based on a patient's physical evaluation and support measuring the outcomes. It is not recommended to select random interventions throughout the planning process. Instead, consider the following six essential factors when choosing interventions:

Introduction to Developmental Psychology01:27

Introduction to Developmental Psychology

1.7K
Developmental psychology explores the changes and continuities in human abilities throughout life, encompassing physical, cognitive, linguistic, and social dimensions. Human development is not restricted to growth, but includes aspects of decline, particularly in physical abilities as individuals age. Developmental psychologists seek to understand how people change as they age and how their mental and social skills evolve.Developmental MilestonesA key concept in developmental psychology is...

Summary
This summary is machine-generated.

Parent-therapist goals in early developmental intervention (EDI) programs focus on activity, not participation. Two-thirds of goals showed positive changes, suggesting a need to increase participation goals for better outcomes.

Area of Science:

  • Pediatrics
  • Developmental Disabilities
  • Occupational Therapy

Background:

  • Family-centered, tertiary-level early developmental intervention (EDI) programs aim to support children with complex developmental disabilities.
  • Collaborative goal setting between parents and therapists is a cornerstone of effective intervention.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To identify the primary domains of collaboratively set intervention goals in a tertiary-level EDI program.
  • To assess changes in performance and satisfaction ratings for these goals pre- and post-intervention.

Main Methods:

  • 168 children (30 ± 3 months) with complex developmental disabilities and their parents completed the Canadian Occupational Performance Measure (COPM).
  • Goals were categorized using the International Classification of Functioning, Disability and Health: Children & Youth version (ICF-CY) domains.
  • Pre- and post-intervention COPM ratings were analyzed to determine positive changes.

Main Results:

  • Of 483 goals, 65.4% were in the ICF-CY activity domain, with fewer in participation (16.4%) and body function (10.3%).
  • Positive changes in performance ratings occurred for 70% of goals, and satisfaction ratings for 68%.
  • Approximately two-thirds of individual goals and average child goals showed positive changes in both performance and satisfaction.

Conclusions:

  • Intervention goals in tertiary EDI programs predominantly target activity rather than participation, contrary to ICF-CY recommendations.
  • While most goals show positive change, there is an opportunity to enhance intervention by increasing the focus on participation goals.
  • Further evaluation is needed to optimize goal setting within EDI programs to improve participation and overall outcomes.
