Background:

  • Aneurysmal bone cysts (ABCs) are rare, benign, expansile bone lesions.
  • ABCs of the temporal bone are exceptionally uncommon, presenting diagnostic and therapeutic challenges.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To report a rare case of an aneurysmal bone cyst in the left temporal bone.
  • To highlight the diagnostic modalities and successful treatment strategy for this rare entity.

Main Methods:

  • Diagnosis was confirmed using Computed Axial Tomography (CAT) Scan, Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI), and biopsy.
  • A preoperative radiotherapy dose of 3000 rads was administered.
  • Surgical excision was performed following radiotherapy.

Main Results:

  • The diagnostic imaging (CAT Scan, MRI) and biopsy successfully identified the aneurysmal bone cyst.
  • Preoperative radiotherapy was administered as planned.
  • The patient experienced a favorable outcome and recovered well after surgical excision.

Conclusions:

  • Aneurysmal bone cysts of the temporal bone, though rare, can be effectively diagnosed with advanced imaging and biopsy.
