Lactococcus lactis cremoris rarely causes human infections. This report details the first known case of chorioamnionitis caused by L. lactis cremoris in a pregnant woman, successfully treated with antibiotics.

Background:

Lactococcus lactis cremoris is a lactic acid bacterium typically used in dairy fermentation.
This organism is seldom implicated in human infections, making its pathogenic potential in clinical settings rare.

Observation:

A 32-year-old pregnant woman with a history of premature rupture of membranes presented with symptoms of chorioamnionitis.
Chorioamnionitis is an infection of the amniotic fluid and membranes surrounding the fetus.

Findings:

Chorioamnionitis was diagnosed and attributed to Lactococcus lactis cremoris.
This represents the first documented case of chorioamnionitis caused by L. lactis cremoris.

Implications:

The findings highlight the need to consider L. lactis cremoris as a potential pathogen in obstetric infections.
Prompt diagnosis and antibiotic treatment, such as amoxicillin and clavulanic acid, led to a full recovery for the patient.
