Male Sexual Response: Erection & Ejaculation

21.7K
Sexual stimulation can take various forms, such as physical touch and visual or auditory cues. When this happens, the parasympathetic reflex in the sacral portion of the spinal cord is activated. This reflex stimulates the release of nitric oxide (NO), which then dilates the arterioles in the penis, increasing blood flow to the erectile tissues - the corpora cavernosa and corpus spongiosum.
The blood filling the erectile tissues compresses the veins, which helps to prevent blood from leaving...

Associative Learning01:27

Associative Learning

1.5K
Associative learning is a fundamental concept in behavioral psychology, wherein a connection is established between two stimuli or events, leading to a learned response. This process is critical in understanding how behaviors are acquired and modified. Conditioning, the mechanism through which associations are formed, can be divided into two main types: classical conditioning and operant conditioning, each elucidating different aspects of associative learning.
Classical conditioning, also known...

Association Areas of the Cortex

9.5K
Association areas are regions of the cerebral cortex that do not have a specific sensory or motor function. Instead, they integrate and interpret information from various sources to enable higher cognitive processes such as memory, learning, and decision-making. Some key association areas include the following:
Prefrontal Association Area: This area is located in the frontal lobe and is involved in planning, decision-making, and moderating social behavior. It connects with primary motor areas,...

Physical Pendulum01:06

Physical Pendulum

2.8K
When a rigid body is hanging freely from a fixed pivot point and is displaced, it oscillates similar to a simple pendulum and is known as a physical pendulum. The period and angular frequency of a physical pendulum are obtained by using the small-angle approximation and drawing parallels with a spring-mass system. The small-angle approximation (sinθ=θ) is valid up to about 14°.
When dealing with complicated systems, the mass moment of inertia is an important parameter, as it...

The Scope of Physics

53.5K
Physics is concerned with the interactions of energy, matter, space, and time, in order to discover the underlying mechanisms that underpin all phenomena. The word "physics" comes from the Greek word "phúsis", which means nature. Physics seeks to comprehend the natural world around us at its most fundamental level. It emphasizes the use of quantitative laws to do this, which could be valuable in other fields that want to push the performance boundaries of present...

Summary

Regular physical activity is linked to a lower incidence of premature ejaculation (PE). Men who exercise regularly experience less PE and potentially improved sexual quality of life compared to sedentary individuals.

Area of Science:

  • Urology
  • Men's Health
  • Sexual Health

Background:

  • Premature ejaculation (PE) is a common male sexual disorder.
  • PE can lead to psychological distress, including anxiety and depression.
  • It negatively impacts sexual satisfaction for both individuals and their partners.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To investigate the association between regular physical activity and premature ejaculation.
  • To compare ejaculation parameters in physically active men versus those with sedentary lifestyles.

Main Methods:

  • Two groups were studied: 112 participants with regular physical activity and 126 with sedentary lifestyles.
  • Participants were aged 18-45, ethnically matched, and sexually active for at least 6 months.
  • Evaluations included metabolic equivalents (MET), the Premature Ejaculation Diagnostic Tool (PEDT), and intravaginal ejaculatory latency time (IELT).

Main Results:

  • Men with regular physical activity had significantly lower mean PEDT scores (6.18 vs. 10.02) and higher mean IELT (316.42s vs. 189.32s) compared to sedentary men (P = .001).
  • Physically active individuals exhibited significantly higher weekly MET-minutes (3448.23 vs. 201.87) (P = .001).
  • These findings indicate a lower prevalence of PE in the physically active group.

Conclusions:

  • Regular physical activity is associated with a reduced incidence of premature ejaculation.
  • Engaging in regular exercise may contribute to enhanced sexual quality of life.
  • Further longitudinal studies are recommended to confirm the relationship between physical activity and PE.
