Student t Distribution01:31

Student t Distribution

14.2K
The population standard deviation is rarely known in many day-to-day examples of statistics. When the sample sizes are large, it is easy to estimate the population standard deviation using a confidence interval, which provides results close enough to the original value. However, statisticians ran into problems when the sample size was small. A small sample size caused inaccuracies in the confidence interval.
The Student t distribution was developed by William S. Goset (1876–1937) of the...

Microsoft Excel: Student's t-Test

1.7K
Student's t-test in Microsoft Excel is a statistical method used to compare the means of two groups to determine if they are significantly different from each other. It's commonly used to evaluate hypotheses, such as testing whether a treatment has an effect compared to a control group. Excel provides built-in functions to perform t-tests, making it accessible for users needing to conduct basic statistical analysis.
To conduct a t-test in Excel, use the T.TEST function or the "Data...

The Eukaryotic Promoter Region02:40

The Eukaryotic Promoter Region

18.9K
The eukaryotic promoter region is a segment of DNA located upstream of a gene. It contains an RNA polymerase binding site, a transcription start site, and several cis-regulatory sequences.  The proximal promoter region is located in the vicinity of the gene and has cis-regulatory sequences and the core promoter. The core promoter is the binding site for RNA polymerase and is usually located between -35 and +35 nucleotides from the transcription start site. The distal promoter regions are...

Predicting Reaction Outcomes02:24

Predicting Reaction Outcomes

11.0K
Kinetics describes the rate and path by which a reaction occurs. In contrast, thermodynamics deals with state functions and describes the properties, behavior, and components of a system. It is not concerned with the path taken by the process and cannot address the rate at which a reaction occurs. Although it does provide information about what can happen during a reaction process, it does not describe the detailed steps of what appears on an atomic or a molecular level. On the other hand,...

Comparing Experimental Results: Student's t-Test

6.1K
The t-test is a statistical method used to compare the sample mean with a population mean or compare two means from two data sets. The test statistic is calculated from the standard deviation, mean, and number of measurements in the data set at a selected confidence interval and then compared to a table of critical values at this confidence level. If the test statistic is smaller than the critical value, the null hypothesis is accepted. In this case, we state that the difference between the...

Area of Science:

  • Occupational therapy
  • Childhood nutrition
  • Social-emotional learning

Background:

  • Creating positive mealtime environments is crucial for student well-being and development.
  • Occupational therapists can play a role in enhancing social and nutritional experiences for students.
  • Existing programs may not adequately address the capacity-building needs of cafeteria supervisors and students.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To evaluate the outcomes of an occupational therapist-led Comfortable Cafeteria program.
  • To assess the program's impact on students' mealtime participation and enjoyment.
  • To examine improvements in cafeteria supervisors' knowledge and skills for fostering a positive mealtime environment.

Main Methods:

  • A 6-week mixed-methods study involving an occupational therapist-led intervention.
  • Utilized visual analog scales (VAS) for pretest-posttest assessment of student participation and enjoyment.
  • Included qualitative data collection to explore program insights from students and supervisors.

Main Results:

  • Statistically significant improvements were observed in student participation and enjoyment ratings (low and mid-range scores).
  • Cafeteria supervisors demonstrated significant gains in perceived knowledge and skills for supervision and promoting healthy eating.
  • Qualitative data indicated students learned prosocial values and supervisors actively encouraged positive social interaction.

Conclusions:

  • The Comfortable Cafeteria program effectively enhanced student mealtime experiences and supervisor capabilities.
  • Integrating occupational therapy services in cafeterias can yield positive changes in student social behavior and supervisor practices.
  • The program supports the development of a supportive and healthy school mealtime environment.
