Abstract:
Catalytic beads are readily distinguished from inactive controls in a method which exploits the localizing potential of a gel. A useful variant employs an acid/base indicator to detect the pH change on ester hydrolysis. Precipitation of the acidified indicator (red) creates an especially strong contrast between active and inactive beads.
