The Roles of Bacteria and Fungi in Plant Nutrition02:11

The Roles of Bacteria and Fungi in Plant Nutrition

47.4K
Plants have the impressive ability to create their own food through photosynthesis. However, plants often require assistance from organisms in the soil to acquire the nutrients they need to function correctly. Both bacteria and fungi have evolved symbiotic relationships with plants that help the species to thrive in a wide variety of environments.

Secondary Active Transport

138.1K
One example of how cells use the energy contained in electrochemical gradients is demonstrated by glucose transport into cells. The ion vital to this process is sodium (Na+), which is typically present in higher concentrations extracellularly than in the cytosol. Such a concentration difference is due, in part, to the action of an enzyme “pump” embedded in the cellular membrane that actively expels Na+ from a cell. Importantly, as this pump contributes to the high concentration of...

Parentral Nutrition: Centeral and Peripheral Parental Nutrition

Parenteral Nutrition (PN) delivers essential nutrients directly into the bloodstream, bypassing the digestive system. It is commonly used for individuals with severe digestive disorders or conditions that prevent normal nutrient absorption.
PN can be administered through two primary routes:
1. Central Parenteral Nutrition (CPN):
CPN involves delivering a high concentration of nutrients through a large vein. This is typically achieved using a Peripherally Inserted Central Catheter (PICC) or,...

Secondary Healthcare System01:11

Secondary Healthcare System

2.1K
Secondary healthcare is offered by a specialist, generally in hospitals or clinics for patients referred by primary healthcare providers. It occurs when a person has an illness or injury that requires specific medical care. Secondary care is often referred to as acute care. Secondary care can range from uncomplicated care to repair a minor laceration or treat a strep throat infection to more complicated emergent care, such as treating a head injury sustained in an automobile accident. Whatever...

Area of Science:

  • Veterinary Medicine
  • Equine Endocrinology
  • Comparative Pathology

Background:

  • Nutritional secondary hyperparathyroidism (NSH) is an uncommon endocrine disorder in horses, often linked to dietary imbalances.
  • Accurate diagnosis and effective treatment strategies for NSH in equines remain critical for animal welfare.

Observation:

  • This case report focuses on a pony diagnosed with NSH, detailing the diagnostic procedures and microscopic bone lesion findings.
  • The study emphasizes the importance of thorough histopathological examination in diagnosing NSH.

Findings:

  • Administration of tiludronate, a bisphosphonate, alongside a balanced diet was explored as a therapeutic approach.
  • Microscopic analysis of bone lesions provided crucial diagnostic information for NSH in the equine patient.

Implications:

  • The findings suggest that tiludronate can be a valuable component in the treatment protocol for ponies suffering from NSH.
  • This report contributes to understanding NSH management and highlights tiludronate's potential to alleviate clinical symptoms in affected horses.
