Summary

Pyogenic flexor tenosynovitis, a hand infection, is typically diagnosed using Kanavel signs in adults. This case study explores their utility in a pediatric patient, highlighting a rare presentation.

Background:

Pyogenic flexor tenosynovitis is an infection of the flexor tendon sheath in the hand.
Diagnosis in adults commonly relies on the four Kanavel signs.
The diagnostic utility of Kanavel signs in pediatric patients is not well-established.

Observation:

A 13-month-old male presented with symptoms suggestive of flexor tendon sheath infection.
The patient exhibited all four of the classic Kanavel signs.
This presentation is unusual for the pediatric population.

Findings:

The case demonstrates that all four Kanavel signs can be present in pediatric pyogenic flexor tenosynovitis.
This suggests Kanavel signs may retain diagnostic value in children.
