We present a safe and affordable method for synthesizing deuterated chloroform (CDCl3) using hexachloro-2-propanone. Poly(N-vinyl-2-pyrrolidone) (PVP) catalysts offer superior stability and cleaner reactions for NMR solvent preparation.
