Abstract:
Objective:To investigate the long-term effects of tonsillectomy on the general health of the patients receiving tonsillectomy over 10 years ago.Method:In the annual physical examination,83 patients who had undergone tonsillectomy more than 10 years ago and matched controls were recorded. Comparison was performed between the 54 matching pairs in terms of the major biochemical indexes. The 65 cases who underwent tonsillectomy were stratified according to the age when receiving surgery. And the related problems are discussed.Result:①In the comparison between the study group and the control group, the hemoglobin level of the male subjects in the study group was significantly higher than that in the control group(151.45±8.70 and 146.34±11.32,respectively,P<0.05). The mean values were in the normal range. The platelet count of female subjects in the study group was significantly higher than that in the control group(251.84±44.31 and 217.81±39.66,respectively,P<0.05). The mean values were also within the normal range. There was no statistically significant difference between the study group and the control group in other biochemical indicators(P>0.05).②The comparison between children group and adult group, the level of urea in the female children group was significantly lower than that in the adult group(P<0.05),but the mean value was in the normal range. There was no statistically significant difference in all the other indicators between the two groups(P>0.05).Conclusion:Tonsillectomy has no negative effects on the general health of the recipients in the long-term.
