Calciphylaxis is a severe condition typically seen in patients with end-stage renal disease (ESRD) undergoing hemodialysis.
It involves calcification of small blood vessels in the skin and subcutaneous fat, leading to painful necrotic lesions.

Observation:

This report details an unusual case of calciphylaxis in a patient who was not suffering from uremia (kidney failure).
The diagnosis was confirmed through clinical presentation and skin biopsy, revealing calcification in dermal and subcutaneous tissues via von Kossa staining.

Findings:

The patient presented with a unique combination of uncontrolled diabetes mellitus, a non-functioning paraganglioma, and vitamin D deficiency.
These factors are believed to have contributed to the development of calciphylaxis in this non-uremic female patient.

Implications:

This case underscores the importance of considering calciphylaxis even in patients without the typical risk factor of kidney disease.
