[The relationship between viral infection and nasal polyps:A Meta-analysis]

Human papillomavirus (HPV) and Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) infections are strongly linked to nasal polyps. Respiratory viral infections, however, show no significant association with nasal polyp development.

- EBV infection also demonstrated a significant association (OR = 5.15, 95% CI: 1.66–16.02, P=0.005).
- Respiratory viruses did not show a significant association (OR = 1.68, 95% CI: 0.93–3.03, P=0.087).
- No significant publication bias was detected.
Conclusions:
- HPV and EBV infections are closely linked to the development of nasal polyps.
- Respiratory viral infections are not significantly associated with nasal polyps.
- Viral infections, particularly HPV and EBV, may play a role in the etiology and pathogenesis of nasal polyps, suggesting targeted early intervention.
