Conclusions:
- Hip/knee osteoarthritis, obesity, diabetes, and tobacco dependence are significant risk factors for DDD.
- Military duty assignment was not found to be a significant risk factor for DDD.
- Further research into the multifactorial causes of DDD is warranted.
