Protein Networks02:26

Protein Networks

4.6K
An organism can have thousands of different proteins, and these proteins must cooperate to ensure the health of an organism. Proteins bind to other proteins and form complexes to carry out their functions. Many proteins interact with multiple other proteins creating a complex network of protein interactions.
These interactions can be represented through maps depicting protein-protein interaction networks, represented as nodes and edges. Nodes are circles that are representative of a protein,...

Network Covalent Solids02:18

Network Covalent Solids

16.2K
Network covalent solids contain a three-dimensional network of covalently bonded atoms as found in the crystal structures of nonmetals like diamond, graphite, silicon, and some covalent compounds, such as silicon dioxide (sand) and silicon carbide (carborundum, the abrasive on sandpaper). Many minerals have networks of covalent bonds.
To break or to melt a covalent network solid, covalent bonds must be broken. Because covalent bonds are relatively strong, covalent network solids are typically...

Defining Psychology

7.9K
Psychology is the scientific discipline dedicated to understanding both observable behavior and the internal mental processes underlying such behavior. It aims to comprehend human nature and apply this understanding to solve practical problems, enhance well-being, and improve societal outcomes. An example of psychology's application is the study of prosocial behavior, such as why and under what conditions individuals might help strangers in need. This process involves describing observed...

Piecewise-Defined Functions01:28

Piecewise-Defined Functions

303
Piecewise defined functions are mathematical models where different expressions define a function over distinct intervals of the domain. These functions are useful for representing systems with varying behaviors depending on input values. For example, the function:  uses a linear rule for inputs less than or equal to –1 and a quadratic rule for values greater than –1. Although it has two formulas, it still defines a single function.Another common type is the absolute value...

Defining Social Psychology01:09

Defining Social Psychology

475
Social psychology investigates how the presence and actions of others influence individual behavior, cognition, and emotion. Examining the social environment's impact provides a scientific framework for understanding how individuals perceive others and are, in turn, influenced by them. This field seeks to uncover the underlying principles guiding social interactions, exploring phenomena such as conformity, obedience, and prosocial behavior.Core Themes in Social PsychologyOne central focus of...

Area of Science:

  • Computer Engineering
  • Hardware Architecture
  • Network-on-Chip Design

Background:

  • Cloud services and deep learning (DL) demand more efficient, scalable hardware.
  • Current systems face pressure for increased performance-to-power ratios.
  • Adaptable, modular interconnects are needed for data centers (DCs) and edge computing.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To propose a scalable Software Defined Network-on-Chip (SDNoC) architecture.
  • To enhance adaptability and modularity for diverse computing environments (cloud to edge).
  • To improve resource partitioning and support data-driven execution models for DL applications.

Main Methods:

  • Developed a modular SDNoC architecture merging hierarchical (ring/2D-mesh) and dynamic reconfiguration.
  • Integrated customized instructions for data-driven program execution model (PXM) and high-level language mapping.
  • Compared the proposed architecture against a conventional flattened 2D-mesh interconnection on FPGA devices.

Main Results:

  • Achieved a 9.5% increase in data traffic throughput.
  • Reduced average packet latency by 2.2x compared to flattened 2D-mesh.
  • Demonstrated low power and resource consumption, confirming good scalability.

Conclusions:

  • The proposed SDNoC architecture offers significant performance improvements for cloud and edge computing.
  • Its modular and reconfigurable design effectively supports diverse applications, including DL.
  • The architecture provides a scalable and energy-efficient solution for future hyperscale systems.
