Summary

This study introduces a trust-aware architecture for Flying Named Data Networking (FNDN) to enhance security and efficiency in drone communication. The novel approach improves dishonesty detection and significantly reduces delay and energy consumption in Flying Ad hoc Networks (FANETs).

Background:

Flying Ad hoc Networks (FANETs) utilize Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) for data delivery, necessitating content-centric communication like Information Centric Networking (ICN).
Named Data Networking (NDN), a prominent ICN implementation, offers intrinsic security but lacks robust trusted communication mechanisms for FANETs.

Purpose of the Study:

To propose a novel trust-aware Monitor-based communication architecture for Flying Named Data Networking (FNDN).
To address the limitations of existing NDN implementations in establishing trusted communication within FANET environments.

Main Methods:

Selected monitors based on trust and stability for efficient interest packet dissemination, mitigating broadcast storms.
Implemented a data retrieval mechanism utilizing the shortest and most trusted path for Interest/Data packets.
Introduced a selective data authenticity check by intermediate UAVs based on their trust in the producer, reducing computational load.

Main Results:

Achieved over 80% dishonesty detection ratio, maintaining NDN's security levels.
Reduced end-to-end delay to under 1 second in worst-case scenarios.
Decreased average consumed energy by more than twofold.

Conclusions:

The proposed trust-aware FNDN architecture effectively enhances security and performance in FANETs.
The monitor-based approach optimizes data dissemination and retrieval, improving efficiency.
This architecture offers a promising solution for secure and efficient content-centric communication in UAV networks.
