Pilot and Numeric Relaying01:21

Pilot and Numeric Relaying

492
Pilot relaying is a type of differential protection used in power systems. It compares electrical quantities at the terminals of equipment via a communication channel instead of direct relay interconnection. This method is essential for transmission lines where the terminals are far apart, typically up to 80 km for lines with 69 to 115 kV ratings. Four types of communication channels are used for pilot relaying:

Clinical Trials: Overview

5.0K
Clinical development focuses on how the drug will interact with the human body and encompasses four key phases of clinical trials, each serving a specific purpose in assessing the safety and effectiveness of new drugs. These phases overlap and build upon one another. Phase I involves a small group of healthy volunteers (typically 20-80 individuals) or, in cases where significant toxicity is expected, patients with the targeted disease, such as cancer or AIDS. The volunteers are tested for...

Trial and Error and Algorithm01:12

Trial and Error and Algorithm

424
A problem-solving strategy is a plan of action used to find a solution. Different strategies have distinct action plans. Trial and error involves trying different solutions until one works. For instance, to fix a broken printer, you might check ink levels, ensure the paper tray isn't jammed, and verify the printer's connection to your laptop. This method can be time-consuming but is commonly used. Thomas Edison, for example, used trial and error to find a suitable filament for the light...

Clinical Trials

10.8K
Clinical trials are prospective experimental studies conducted on humans to determine the safety and efficacy of treatments, drugs, diet methods, and medical devices. Using statistics in clinical trials enables researchers to derive reasonable and accurate conclusions from the collected data, allowing them to make wise decisions in uncertain situations. In medical research, statistical methods are crucial for preventing errors and bias.
There are four phases in a clinical trial. A phase one...

Characteristics of Practical Op Amps01:16

Characteristics of Practical Op Amps

870
A difference amplifier, a crucial component in numerous electronic devices, ideally amplifies only the difference-mode signal, which is the difference between two input signals. However, in practical circuits, the output voltage depends on both the differential gain and the common-mode gain.
The ratio of differential gain to the common-mode gain is defined as the common-mode rejection ratio (CMRR). This ratio quantifies the ability of operational amplifiers (op-amps) to reject common-mode...

Theoretical Foundations of Nursing Practice01:30

Theoretical Foundations of Nursing Practice

17.5K
Theories play an essential role in organizing patient care. Theories refer to a proposed or followed belief, policy, or procedure that is the basis for action. Nursing theories are knowledge-based concepts that guide nurses' actions, influence nursing education and practice, and allow nurses to care for their patients.
Theories provide a perspective to assess patients' conditions and organize data and methods. They also assist in analyzing and interpreting information. They represent a...

Area of Science:

  • Pharmacy Practice
  • Primary Care
  • Health Workforce Research

Background:

  • Non-dispensing pharmacists are increasingly considered valuable additions to general practice teams.
  • This pilot study aimed to detail the activities of three such pharmacists over a six-month period.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To describe and categorize the daily activities undertaken by non-dispensing pharmacists integrated into general practice settings.
  • To understand the distribution of time spent on various tasks, including clinical, administrative, and educational roles.

Main Methods:

  • Three general practices each employed a part-time, non-dispensing pharmacist.
  • Pharmacists maintained daily activity diaries for six months, which were then analyzed.
  • Activities were categorized into quality of practice, administration, medication review, and patient education.

Main Results:

  • Pharmacists dedicated the most time to quality of practice activities (37%), particularly clinical audits (47% within this category).
  • Administration accounted for 34% of activities, while medication review and patient education comprised 19% and 11%, respectively.
  • Over time, administrative tasks decreased, and communication with general practitioners (GPs) on clinical matters increased.

Conclusions:

  • General practice pharmacists engaged in diverse, clinically relevant activities leveraging their medication expertise.
  • Their participation in clinical support for GPs grew throughout the trial.
  • Further randomized controlled trials are needed to ascertain the clinical outcomes and optimal roles for pharmacists in Australian general practice.
