This study reports a potential link between sacroiliitis and tubulointerstitial nephritis in a patient with ulcerative colitis. Pathological findings suggest a shared cause for kidney, intestinal, and sacroiliac inflammation.
Area of Science:
- Nephrology
- Rheumatology
- Gastroenterology
Background:
- A 28-year-old male patient presented with progressive renal dysfunction.
- He had a history of ulcerative colitis and sacroiliitis.
Observation:
- Renal biopsy confirmed tubulointerstitial nephritis.
- Pathology revealed lymphocyte infiltration and non-caseating granuloma in both kidney and intestine.
Findings:
- Steroid therapy led to partial improvement in renal dysfunction, sacroiliitis, and enteritis.
- Shared pathological features suggest a common pathogenetic mechanism.
Implications:
- This case highlights a potential association between sacroiliitis, tubulointerstitial nephritis, and enteritis.
- Further research may elucidate the underlying pathogenetic links and inform treatment strategies.

Drug Delivery: Enteral Route
Routes of Drug Administration: Enteral
Enteral administration involves drug administration via the mouth in two ways: orally or sublingually.
Unlike sublingually drugs, drugs that are taken orally pass through the gastrointestinal (GI) tract and get metabolized by the liver. Once metabolized, the drug is absorbed into the systemic circulation, reaching different body parts via the bloodstream. However, while passing through the stomach,...
