    Summary

    Chemodectomas of the larynx, arising from the superior laryngeal glomus, are aggressive malignant tumors. These rare laryngeal tumors require total laryngectomy for effective treatment, as radiotherapy is not recommended.

    Background:

    • Chemodectomas, also known as glomus tumors, are rare neoplasms that can occur in various head and neck locations.
    • Laryngeal chemodectomas, specifically arising from the superior laryngeal glomus, are exceptionally uncommon.

    Observation:

    • Two male patients presented with laryngeal chemodectoma originating from the superior laryngeal glomus.
    • The primary presenting symptom in both cases was pain, indicating significant disease burden.
    • Both tumors exhibited aggressive clinical behavior, suggesting a high potential for local invasion and metastasis.

    Findings:

    • Histopathological examination confirmed the diagnosis of chemodectoma in both laryngeal cases.
    • The aggressive nature of these tumors was evident in their clinical presentation and behavior.
    • The tumors demonstrated resistance or lack of efficacy to radiotherapy.

    Implications:

    • Malignant laryngeal chemodectomas necessitate aggressive surgical management.
    • Total laryngectomy is the recommended treatment of choice for these aggressive laryngeal neoplasms.
    • Radiotherapy has no established role in the management of laryngeal chemodectomas.
