Accountability and Responsibility of a Nurse II

1.2K
Professional accountability in nursing is a multifaceted concept that encompasses professional ethics, legal standards, and employment expectations. This framework ensures that nurses maintain and elevate the quality of care while upholding the values of their profession. It compels them to treat patients, families, and colleagues with respect, compassion, and integrity.

Accountability and Responsibility of a Nurse I

3.0K
Accountability in nursing is a fundamental principle that underscores the obligation of nurses to take responsibility for their actions and answer for any errors or omissions in patient care. This principle is grounded in the professional, legal, and ethical frameworks that shape nursing practice. For instance, nurses must adhere to all relevant laws, regulations, and practice standards, including guidelines set forth by nursing boards and professional bodies, to ensure their actions comply...

Data Reporting and Recording

5.5K
Reporting and recording are crucial in data documentation. The timely, thorough, and accurate documentation of facts is essential when recording patient data. Failure to record findings during an assessment or interpretation of a problem will result in loss of information and make the patient document unreliable. The reader is left with general impressions if the information is not specific. A recording is documenting data of the individual's health information in a traceable, secure, and...

The Eukaryotic Promoter Region02:40

The Eukaryotic Promoter Region

18.8K
The eukaryotic promoter region is a segment of DNA located upstream of a gene. It contains an RNA polymerase binding site, a transcription start site, and several cis-regulatory sequences.  The proximal promoter region is located in the vicinity of the gene and has cis-regulatory sequences and the core promoter. The core promoter is the binding site for RNA polymerase and is usually located between -35 and +35 nucleotides from the transcription start site. The distal promoter regions are...

Measurement: Standard Units

80.4K
Every measurement provides three kinds of information: the size or magnitude of the measurement (a number), a standard of comparison for the measurement (a unit), and an indication of the uncertainty of the measurement. While the number and unit are explicitly represented when a quantity is written, the uncertainty is an aspect of the errors in the measurement results.

    Area of Science:

    • Nursing
    • Healthcare Management
    • Patient Safety

    Background:

    • Bedside reporting is a communication strategy used during shift changes.
    • This study focused on nurses' perspectives on accountability, empowerment, work effectiveness, satisfaction, and communication.
    • An educational intervention aimed to improve bedside handoff reporting.

    Purpose of the Study:

    • To evaluate the impact of an educational learning activity on bedside handoff reporting.
    • To examine the effects on nurse accountability and work effectiveness.
    • To assess nurses' perspectives on empowerment, satisfaction, and communication.

    Main Methods:

    • A pre-post educational intervention design was used.
    • Validated questionnaires (Specht and Ramler Accountability Index, Conditions for Workplace Effectiveness Questionnaire-II) were administered.
    • 184 registered nurses (RNs) participated, with 73 completing both pre and post-tests.

    Main Results:

    • Significant improvements were observed in nurse empowerment, work effectiveness, communication, and job satisfaction post-intervention.
    • No statistically significant difference was found in accountability.
    • The participant sample was ethnically diverse, with a majority identifying as Latina.

    Conclusions:

    • Implementing bedside reporting in medical-surgical units can enhance nurse satisfaction and accountability.
    • Bedside reporting is associated with positive patient care outcomes.
    • Further interprofessional implementation of bedside reporting is suggested.
