Cross-Sectional Research01:50

Cross-Sectional Research

12.5K
In cross-sectional research, a researcher compares multiple segments of the population at the same time. If they were interested in people's dietary habits, the researcher might directly compare different groups of people by age. Instead of following a group of people for 20 years to see how their dietary habits changed from decade to decade, the researcher would study a group of 20-year-old individuals and compare them to a group of 30-year-old individuals and a group of 40-year-old...

Surveys02:16

Surveys

16.8K
Often, psychologists develop surveys as a means of gathering data. Surveys are lists of questions to be answered by research participants, and can be delivered as paper-and-pencil questionnaires, administered electronically, or conducted verbally. Generally, the survey itself can be completed in a short time, and the ease of administering a survey makes it easy to collect data from a large number of people.

Crossed Aldol Reaction Using Weak Bases01:14

Crossed Aldol Reaction Using Weak Bases

2.7K
This lesson deals with the crossed aldol reaction using weak bases. The self-condensation of an aldehyde having α hydrogen is prevented by adding it slowly to a mixture of formaldehyde and weak bases like hydroxide and alkoxide. Upon slow addition of the aldehyde, the base deprotonates the α carbon of the aldehyde to form the corresponding enolate. The enolate subsequently attacks the formaldehyde to form a single crossed product. Figure 1 depicts the aforementioned reaction.

Finding Volume Using Cross-Sectional Area01:24

Finding Volume Using Cross-Sectional Area

72
For solids whose cross-sectional areas vary in a predictable way, volume can be determined by integrating these areas along an axis perpendicular to the slices. This approach is particularly useful for polyhedral solids, where classical geometric formulas may not be immediately applicable. A tetrahedron provides a clear example of how cross-sectional integration can be applied to a three-dimensional object with continuously changing geometry.Consider a tetrahedron with height h and a base that...

Profile Leveling and Cross Sections01:26

Profile Leveling and Cross Sections

1.7K
Profile leveling and cross-sections are surveying methods used to determine and document terrain elevations for infrastructure projects such as highways, railroads, canals, and pipelines. These methods provide data for earthwork planning and alignment of proposed routes.  Profile leveling involves measuring elevations along a fixed line to create a vertical terrain profile. A surveyor sets up a leveling instrument at the benchmark (BM) and records a backsight (BS) to determine the...

Spinal Cord: Cross-sectional Anatomy

4.9K
The cross-sectional anatomy of the spinal cord offers a detailed view of its complex structure and function within the central nervous system. At the core of the spinal cord lies the gray matter, characterized by its butterfly or "H"-shaped appearance in cross-section. This central region is enveloped by white matter, with the overall structure divided into symmetrical halves by the dorsal median sulcus and the ventral median fissure.
Gray Matter and its Components
Central to the gray matter is...

Area of Science:

  • Digital Health
  • Health Services Research
  • Telemedicine

Background:

  • Mobile health (mHealth) is globally recognized for improving healthcare quality.
  • Internet hospitals are expanding in China to leverage mHealth benefits.
  • Previous research has not examined the scope or patient satisfaction of Chinese internet hospitals.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To investigate the characteristics of general practice outpatients using internet hospitals.
  • To analyze the disease information managed through these platforms.
  • To assess patient satisfaction with internet hospital services.

Main Methods:

  • Data collected from Zhejiang University's First Affiliated Hospital internet hospital (Feb 2016-Feb 2017).
  • Included patient demographics, health conditions, and online comments.
  • Web-based consultations accessed via computer or smartphone.

Main Results:

  • 715 patients with 365 distinct health issues were analyzed.
  • Services covered internal medicine, surgery, pediatrics, and emergency care.
  • High patient satisfaction reported, with most receiving health education and positive ratings.

Conclusions:

  • Internet hospitals are effective for diverse health conditions.
  • High patient satisfaction is contingent on internet accessibility via computer or smartphone.
  • This model shows promise for enhancing healthcare delivery.
