Constipation in the cancer patient: causes and management

Constipation is a distressing symptom with multiple etiologies in the cancer patient. Therapy is based on identification and management of underlying causes combined with symptomatic treatment. A working knowledge of bowel physiology and laxative pharmacology forms the foundation for this approach.
