Plasma interleukin 6 levels are associated with cardiac function after ST-elevation myocardial infarction

Elevated interleukin-6 (IL-6) and a lower soluble IL-6 receptor (sIL-6R)/IL-6 ratio early after ST-elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI) predict larger infarct size and reduced cardiac function. These biomarkers indicate poorer outcomes at four months post-STEMI.
