    Summary

    Intraoperative widefield imaging and scleral depression effectively visualized peripheral retinal cysts during vitrectomy for diabetic tractional retinal detachment.

    Area of Science:

    • Ophthalmology
    • Retinal Surgery

    Background:

    • Diabetic tractional retinal detachment (TRD) is a complex condition requiring surgical intervention.
    • Pars plana vitrectomy is a standard surgical approach for managing TRD.

    Observation:

    • Intraoperative visualization of peripheral retinal anomalies can be challenging.
    • Multiple pars plana cysts of varying sizes were observed during surgery.

    Findings:

    • Widefield imaging systems combined with scleral depression provided excellent visualization of the peripheral retina.
    • Detailed imaging of pars plana cysts and their relationship to the ora serrata was achieved.

    Implications:

    • This technique enhances the ability to diagnose and manage peripheral retinal pathology during vitrectomy.
